In the beginning of the project, each person of the group had preference about subjects and would work on the different subjects. Then, we were able to choose one subject which interested everybody, that is to say the young criminals. We decided to focus on the prevention of the juvenile delinquency. But after several researches, we remark that the Spain and the France haven’t a specific program of prevention concerning the young criminals.
Finally, our project dealt with the reintegration of the young criminal. I worked with Christiane, Laura and Lasse. We have chosen this subject because none of us knew this subject. I also think that it is important to discover several audiences, including this one. Perhaps, in our professional future, we could confront these types of public. So, it was necessary to have knowledge about the young criminals. Thus, we could adapt easier our behavior to news situations and we could bring them appropriated solutions to solve their problems.
I think that the program allowing the integration of the young criminals in the society is important because it allows them to learn to manage their lives correctly and a healthy way. Without the integration, we can appear phenomena like the marginalization or the stigmatization, which are harmful for the life of individuals. We know yet that if the program concerning the integration is implemented from the first acts of delinquency, will be more efficient. And the young people will have more chance to be integrated in the society and to continue their socialization correctly.
We began the project by the researches of information concerning our own countries. And after, we we have selected it to keep the most important, and we have put it in the schedule. Therefore, it’s easier to compare the differences and the similarities between our three countries. The first and the biggest shock was the age of criminal responsibility in France at 10 years old (Because in Denmark and in Spain, the age of criminal responsibility is at 14 years old.). This difference opened the discussion, two of us thought that the good age is 14 years old and the two others thought 16 years old. I think that it is 14 years old, because I consider the young of this age is able to know the consequences of his/her acts and he/she is able to assume the sentences which imposed Him/her. And I think if we consider that the youth are responsible from 14 years old, the social workers and the government can implement the preventive actions or measures. Perhaps, this prevention can be more efficient than it was implemented only 16 years old. And the second surprise was our countries don’t respect the Un Children Convention ( for example: In France, the age of criminal responsibility at 10 years old, whereas the UN Children Convention fix this age at 12 years old, and in Denmark, when the secured institutions are fully booked, the young criminal can go to the adult prison, etc). It is very similar about the kind of institutions, but we found some differences. Like in the France, from 13 years old, the youth can go the specific prison, which is separated the adult prison. An In Catalonia (Spain), there are two kinds of institutions that act differently than the closed institutions, which focus mostly on mediation(example: S.M.A.T. Mediation service and technical advice and S.E.M. Service Performance measures). Otherwise, the kind of professionals, the professional aims and the welfare system are very similar in our three countries.
Thanks to this project, I learnt professionally and personally.
PROFESSIONNALLY, because I have knowledge on the young criminal. And if I confront against this audience in my future professional, I would feel ready. Because of this, I learnt the legislation concerning the young criminal, the institutions which are specific for his public, the ways which allow the reintegration, the professionals who allow that the youth to find their place in the society, etc. So, I would be able to orientate correctly this youth to the appropriated institutions. And also, thanks to the project, I had still to improve my English, because I was obliged to participate to the debate and the discussion, so I should to speak English. It was a good exercise for me. Before, I was so shy, I didn’t dare to speak and I was afraid to do a lot of mistake. Now, I give me the rights to do mistakes and to try. And if the other people don’t understand me, I try again. So, this project was really challenge for me and was beneficial/good for me.
PERSONNALLY, I learnt to work with people who had a way to study different like mine. The way to study is very really different between Denmark and France, but less between Spain and Spain. But, this experience was very rewarding. I liked to work with the Danish students because they are calm, cool and they don’t put pressure. Like I’m very nervous, it was good point for me (so thank Christiane and Lasse!). Also, I liked to work Laura (Spanish girl), because she is very organized and she dared to speak and to give her opinion. Thanks to Laura, I dared to give my ideas (so thank Laura, too!). And, our ways to study are very similar. Even if, the beginnings were little complicated for me, this experience allows me to believe a little on me and I realized to like really to share this experience with these persons.
